Janswasthya Chetna Samiti has been working on health related issues since its inception in 2000. In Saharanpur district, disadvantaged communities are faced with a lack of knowledge and access to information which leads to an increase in health and hygiene problems. These issues in turn contribute to the cycle of poverty.
One issue that Janswasthya Chetna Samiti is addressing is that of HIV-AIDS, working to counter discrimination and stigma and also strengthening community groups and providing health related services. In the past year, the team has been concentrating its efforts in 5 Gram Panchayats of Saharanpur; working with a total of 5 Youth Recreation Centres.
Janswasthya Chetna Samiti is also working on Mother and Child Health. Through the UNICEF Behaviour Change Communication programme, Janswasthya Chetna Samiti is intervening in Saharanpur district to disseminate four key messages ( hand washing practice, HIV-AIDS, and girl child education). These messages are disseminated through a network of Village Information Centres and Village Youth Volunteers.
